Our environmental work in Stockholm – sustainability at and hotel
At Best Western and hotel in Stockholm, we are proud to be an eco-certified hotel actively working toward a more sustainable future.
For us, environmental responsibility is not a temporary initiative – it is an ongoing process where we continuously seek new ways to reduce our environmental impact. With us, you can stay in the heart of Stockholm with a clear conscience – without compromising on comfort or quality.
Green Key – our eco-certification
We are certified by Green Key, an international eco-label for the hospitality industry. Staying at a Green Key hotel in Stockholm means choosing a hotel that takes environmental responsibility seriously and meets high sustainability standards.
Many people wonder how they can contribute to protecting the environment – and the answer is actually very simple. By choosing to check in with us, you already have. You are choosing a Green Key hotel – a good choice for you and an even better choice for the environment.
The purpose of Green Key is to support sustainable consumption. Its vision is that future generations will have at least the same opportunities to meet their needs as we do today. We care about both the environment and your comfort. Our goal is to make it easy for you as a guest to live sustainably – without sacrificing comfort, quality, or experience.

Sustainable cleaning
As part of our environmental efforts, we have introduced sustainable cleaning practices in our hotel rooms. This means that if you stay more than one night, your room will not be cleaned automatically.
If you would like your room cleaned every day during your stay, we are of course happy to arrange that. Please inform the reception no later than 8:00 PM the evening before.
Did you know? Each year, hotels use approximately 10 million litres of water and more than 6,000 litres of cleaning products. We do what we can to reduce this and lessen our environmental impact. Join us – together, we can make a difference.
Reducing food waste with generation waste
We are proud of our partnership with Generation Waste – an initiative that helps hotels and restaurants reduce food waste. Through digital tools, we weigh our daily food waste and analyse the results in order to reduce waste, increase profitability, and contribute to a better climate.
This is part of our ongoing sustainability work in Stockholm, where every effort counts.
How we work toward a more sustainable future
Here are some examples of our daily environmental initiatives at Best Western and hotel:
-
Water consumption is minimized through low-flow showers, taps, and toilets.
-
Cooking is carried out in a water-efficient manner.
-
The use of chemicals is carefully controlled through precise dosing.
-
Daily cleaning is performed entirely without chemicals.
-
Waste sent for incineration is reduced through careful waste sorting.
-
Purchasing is adapted to current needs to avoid unnecessary waste.
-
Energy consumption is minimized by reducing heating and air circulation when rooms are unoccupied. Lighting is automatically switched off when guests leave their rooms.
-
Televisions, photocopiers, stoves, and other electrical equipment are energy-efficient models.
-
When purchasing goods and services, eco-labelled alternatives are chosen whenever possible.
We believe in many small steps – every action contributes to a more sustainable hotel and a greener future.
You can help us make a difference
As a guest, you can contribute too. Here are some simple ways to help during your stay:
-
Take smaller portions at the buffet and return for more if needed – this reduces food waste.
-
Reuse your towel to save water and energy.
-
We change bed linen after three nights (for stays longer than three nights). If you are staying longer and are happy to use your sheets for an extended period, please inform the reception.
-
Turn off the TV and unplug chargers when not in use (this also reduces fire risk). Remove your key card from the power holder by the door when leaving the room so the lights switch off.
-
Save water and energy by taking shorter showers.
-
Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
Small efforts from many guests make a big difference for the environment.
Would you like to offset the climate impact of your stay?
By planting 20 trees, you can offset one tonne of CO₂.
According to our calculations, one guest night at a Nordic hotel results in approximately 7 kg of CO₂ emissions.
